a summer request!!

I found a tiny starfish
In a tide pool by the sand.
I found a tiny starfish
And I put him in my hand.

An itty-bitty starfish
No bigger than my thumb,
A wet and golden starfish
Belonging to no one.

I thought that I would take him
From the tidepool by the sea,
And bring him home to give you
A loving gift from me.

But as I held my starfish,
His skin began to dry.
Without his special seaside home,
My gift for you would die.

I found a tiny starfish
In a tide pool by the sea.
I hope whoever finds him next
Will leave him there, like me!

And the gift I've saved for you?
The best that I can give:
I found a tiny starfish,
And for you, I let him live.

Its summer! do the world a favor and dont take any "souvenirs" from your beach trips. leave the corals, the sand, the sea shells and the starfishes. keep the oceans alive! :)

on being a CommArts major

Its a great ride to be part of the college of liberal arts in DLSU. However in the one year Ive been in it Ive seen how misunderstood we could be as a college. everyone thinks its easy. Sure, we dont have a focus on math and chemicals and such, but that doesn't make us stupid.

I'll start with my course. The following is just a slice of what most people stereotype my course to be. Whenever I tell someone "I am a Communication Arts major." I get the following reactions:

Reaction#1 "so... gusto mo maging artista?"
~Hindi teh. Ayoko maging artista. I dont have any hidden fantasies of one day hosting wowowee or being plastered on a billboard. Maybe when I was 10 and looking through my candy magazine, but thats not why I'm here. Not everyone who's in AB-CAM wants to be a celebrity. not that its a bad thing, After all many celebrities have taken this course and soared. I'm just saying that thats not what EVERYONE wants.

Reaction#2 "ohh so youre gonna work in a fashion magazine?"
~ this reaction I understand. Many people in my course actually want to pursue fashion. Guys, if youre looking for girls (and boys) who dress like they jumped out of lookbook.nu, then go to CLA. but no, we dont learn how to be fashown in comm arts. if that were the case I would've failed a long time ago. (out of sheer laziness hahaha) comm arts = fashion. maybe sometimes, but not always.

Reaction#3 "ah you like advertising?"
~A good majority of students actually join commarts to pursue a career in advertising, but again, its not everyones dream come true. Personally, I dont have any plans of finding my vocation in advertising. I always get a good laugh when i tell people this. Maybe they think that AB-CAM=Advertising. However after spending a year in this, nope thats not all there is to it.

Reaction#4 "ano yun? gusto mo lang ng madali na course?"
~ I know commarts sounds like a piece of cake next to mechanical engineering or human biology, but comparisons aside, it isn't.  Many of our majors are hands on and its very rare for a Comm-arts student to maintain the required CGPA to be a cum laude. It's no walk in the park. Plus, with all the fancy schmancy media equipment it can get pretty expensive. Ive heard of people spending up to 100K on a thesis (all for a 1.5) Doesnt sound very easy to me. Someone from the upper batch once told me that if you see a student crying all over miguel building, you can bet your ass that it's a Commarts student. I still have yet to know if this is true. but one things for sure: there is fierce competition in my course.

Reaction#5 "uy madaming hot diyan! sige good luck!"
~sige thank you nalang! hahahha

with that said..

I know its not one of those sure money courses. whenever its campaign week in CLA we cant really say "Hello future doctors/teachers/engineers"because our future is pretty much whatever we make of it - whatever that may be. People are there out of sheer passion without being 100% certain where that passion will take them. I love it.

I love my course because theres an emphasis on being responsible workers in media. I hate how the media is so irrelevant now, I hate what were teaching our kids. I once met a little girl before who said "gusto ko maging sex bomb dancer" It was at that moment I knew that something needs to be done about this. Personally, Im staying in this course because I'm an advocate for responsible media coverage. Its not all about the glamour, but thats what media in our country has become. its sad. so when you tell them you're in a course about media, thats the image they get. glamour. this is not right.

In my course, Ive met future film makers and journalists, the most critical thinkers and visionaries. real substantial people. I can feel myself being challenged each day, and it feels great. Im in good company and I have no plans on leaving. with that said, then yes.

"I am a Communication Arts major." :)

here we go again!

I think this is the nth time that I've tried to start my blog again. My very first one was in multiply, however when everyones posts in multiply started looking like a shopping catalogue I knew I had to jump ship. I'd tell you all about why i couldn't start again, why i had my hiatus, but that would be too long a post. why i did this, I have so many reasons for (what a yoda sentence!)

but..

since part of my 2011 resolution is to keep things simple, then I'll just go out and say it.

I procrastinated
because I knew that with all the facebook, twitter, and tumblr around that people got lazy.
culture of convenience,  who's gonna wanna read a 3 paragraph essay?
why write when no ones gonna read?

butt...

now Ive realized that I love writing and whether anyone reads it or not, it doesn't matter.

pwet..

this whole time I only imagine talking to myself but if you happen to hear me out then just give me a hollah! I apologize for any future misspelled words and mismatched punctuation marks or faulty sentences. I only want to put away the voices in my head. @-)
